We have been out on our new G23 just twice this year, we have the integrated steering assist option. So far I have been really disappointed, I haven’t really been able to notice any difference from any of my former v drive boats. As we were getting off the lake and I even noticed that the little moving gauge that shows you how much the thruster will engage when you put the boat in gear wasn’t moving as I turned the wheel, it seemed to be stuck about half way to the left. I even tried manual mode and manually pushing the back end right and left and nothing seemed to happen. I have watched a few videos from nautiqe and some dealers about the steering assist and my boat doesn’t seem to be working at all like the videos show, in some of the videos i could even hear the thruster running when engaged but I don’t remember hearing anything on our boat when trying to use it. I’m starting to think that it isn’t working at all, i wanted to ask any others that have the steering assist option if they have had any issues or if you had to do some sort of set up the first time before it would work?

I have the steering assist option on my 2019 G23. I pretty much only use it in manual mode because in automatic mode it makes driving an inboard too foriegn for my level of experience. But in manual mode, even on low, I can spin my boat within its length. If you can't do that it isn't working properly. You can DEFINITELY hear it working. It sounds like a small turbine.

Here is a video that may help you decide if you are using the Steering Assist properly and that it is working as designed.

Yeah this is the video i found earlier, I’m pretty confident that it isn’t working at all. I cant hear anything when it was supposed to be running. As far as you know there wasn’t any set up you had to do before it worked?

I have a G25. Had to limp on to the trailer because of a busted prop and bent shaft. Steering assist put me right on it! I am novice to say the least at driving inboard. With my steering assist, I can back into my slip and got a back loaded lift. I love it. Definately ditch the auto mode, and use manual. You hear that thing working. However, it can over heat and stop working. Once it cools down its good to go. I use it sparingly but I certainly use it.
Every salesman I had tried to talk me out of it as it was a waste of money etc. I was so novice, I didnt care. Any help I was gonna take. Man, I can never have another boat without it.

Under 4mph with the engine running you will hear the turbine like whine of the Steering Assist propeller. It is automatically disabled when the engine is off or speed is over 4 mph.
You might check the circuit breaker box under the steering wheel to see if a breaker has tripped. But I don't know if there is a dedicated breaker for Steering Assist as I am not at my boat at this time.
Good luck!

Manual mode only for me. Now that I have it I wouldn’t want to be out there without it. Fine tuning rider pickups, docking, and trailer loading. I’ve been boating for 40 yrs so this is not a crutch it’s an enhancement.
