1999 Air Nautique Gauges Reading High

Last year fuel gauge was working intermittently, I figured it was a loose connection so I pulled it out to check. Connection was indeed loose so I tightened it up.

The fuel gauge now functions all the time but the reading is wrong. By half a tank the gauge reads full. The reading was correct, when it was working, prior to tightening the connections.

Also, after tightening the connections on the fuel gauge, the voltage gauge reads about 2 volts above the system voltage. When I read 12.5 volts at the battery the voltage gauge reads over 14 volts, when the boat is running the gauge reads over 16 volts even though my volt meter reads 14 at the battery.

I have checked voltage to each gauge. With engine off, the 12v at the gauges reads 12.3 volts with voltage at battery reading 12.5.

Any ideas what could be causing this?
