2018 g23, steering assist has worked flawlessly until yesterday. Wife was pulling me and when I got in the boat, the thruster was much higher pitch and it was not engaging the propeller. Upon inspection out of the water, everything spins freely, but when turned on, you can hear the motor engage, but the propeller does not turn. I assume maybe a stick or debris went through it? No visible prop damage. Anyone know if there is a shear pin in the linkage somewhere? Day one of a weeks vacation of course, oh well, don’t have to have it, just spoils you when you do. Seems like the controller box inside by the engine is very well labeled as “do not open”. Thanks

I know this post is older but I did replace the sheer pin myself. Took about 5 hours in total. I have a 2020 G23 and my unit was located behind the engine on the starboard side. The hardest part is getting the two bolts on (and back on) that hold the unit to the transom. I had to use a 13mm open end wrench and a whole lot of words I'm not proud of. . The difference is their example used torx bolts whereas my unit had regular hex head stainless bolts on it. You'll need a shorter length wrench as everything is in the way.
I'm pretty mechincally inclined and is only a challenging repair because of the location. The 16-20 hour quote from a dealer sounds a bit high but I'm unfamilar with the 2019's and that configuration. Be sure to disconnect the batteries before you start.
Here is a link to the video that shows how to replace the pin once you have the unit out.. LinkLast edited by jshack01; 08-11-2024, 07:35 PM.
