    2016 G23 Won't Start

Have a 2016 G23 with the 450. (I think it's the 450; one engine up from the base.)

Last fall--went to take the boat off the lift for winterization/storage. It had sat awhile. When I went to push the start button--got nothing. Thought batteries were dead. At winterization, dealer said they found a 'loose connection."

This year was a little worried to put it in the first time. But it started and ran no problem.

Second time in--would not start. Pushed the start buttons twice and everything came per normal. (Two lights on the start button.) Third push of the button and nothing.

Need help diagnosing. Guessing that it's obviously same issue (or related to last fall; difference is that in the fall got absolutely nothing; this spring two lights okay at start and then nothing with the third push) and dealer just did not get it all taken care of.

Really don't want to tow it back yet.

Appreciate any good advice. So far looking on here it looks like it could be:

    1./ Engine fuses/relays
    2./ ECM
3./ Starter blown or loose connection
    4./ Neutral safety switch
5./ Loose wire at dash panel (behind the start button)
    6./ Throttle assembly

    Thanks!

My first thought was the faulty battery switch that they were using for a little while, but if you're getting power to the dash, that's not it. Possibly the starter relay or the starter itself. Might even be the start button on the keypad, or a connection at the keypad.

Assuming moving the throttle in and out of neutral did not help, check the post fuse under the dash near the battery select switch. You can have power to the dash computer but not the starter circuit if the post fuse is defective or loose.

I had this happen on my 2016, 2018, and 2019 G23s. Lift the engine cover. There is a large wiring connector right in front of the engine. Disconnect it and then reconnect. It seems the connection can occasionally work loose. I now use stainless safety wire on them and I have never had this occur again.

Same issue today, surfing, lots of starts and stops, then all of sudden the blue start button lights, but there is no start. After checking neutral and emergency shut off, went to the ignition fuse box on the front starboard side of the 450 motor. The box cap had come loose. I started pulling fuses and relays. Some corrosion seemed present on the connections. I cleaned with Ox Guard and a toothbrush, reconnected, now I can’t get it to fail. Ordered new relays anyway.

Good find. I know where the fuse box on the engine is, was the fuse cover loose/open? Did you happen to grab any pictures of any of the process?

Well, unfortunately I’m having start problems again, replaced the relays but no dice. If I pull the 20amp starter fuse it will “reset” and start. Hmm

Hope you figure it out MBA, sounds like you've found the effect, now you just have to find the cause, it's gotta be in that 20 amp pattern somewhere.
I have a weird pattern, boat just dies, usually close to idle at low speeds. Always starts right back up with the push of a green button. Happens maybe once or twice on a outing, but not every time. It's like it has a mind of its own. This one might remain a mystery...

Thanks, I’ve read a lot here and have made a list of issues others have discovered that may tie to this issue:

                  Nauti Girl no start:

-ignition fuse box, 20amp fuse reset, relays

-Neutral safety switch? Neutral throttle button non-operational.

                  -transducer non operational / short/
                  intermittent

                  -“wired remote†wire near trash can?

                  -bilge pump float short sometimes

-loose ignition wire at dash panel?

                  -starter issues loose connection/ etc

-post fuse under the dash near the battery select switch?

-a large wiring connector right in front of the engine. Disconnect it and then reconnect?

                  -ECM

When you try to start it, does it crank? Do you hear the fuel pump kick on if you just hit the start button quickly? If you have never replaced the throttle base assembly - you should as it’s just a matter of time before it goes and it’s really hard to diagnose.

I agree, sounds like the classic symptom of a failing throttle base assembly. The boat won't start because the TBA is telling the engine computer that the boat isn't in neutral.

Update- the corrosion to the ignition fuse block had crept through and beyond what i thought I had cleaned. There are heavily corroded wires to the Ignition relay.

No oceans in Montana, I mean at least the last time I was there.
How do you figure that area got so corroded? It would have to be the long term effects of condensation, ya think?
I pull the plug, open the engine compartment, and battery/pumps hatch end of day just to let the internals breathe.

The Nauti Girl is at Montana Wake Co. now; the fuse block only comes complete with the entire wiring harness as a 1200$ part.

Replacing the wiring harness fixed the no-start problem.
