I have been waiting to post this for months, and I know this because it started well before the day my third child was born. I know everyone hates on craigslist and let go apps because everything on there is garbage and something someone else is trying to get rid of and out of their life. So when I came across the picture below I knew that something was too good to be true. I have been looking for an early 2000Nautique for a couple of months as a fixer-upper project. My wife was totally on board so that we could have some fun out on the lake with our kids, as the current Sea Ray just wasn’t cutting it anymore. So while looking around I couldn’t find anything in my price range. That was until until one day on The LetGo App I stumbled on a 2004 Super Air Nautique Team Edition for sale for a killer price. The boat hull appeared to be in good condition and I reached out to the owner, and he said the boat was very sentimental to him and that he had second thoughts about selling it. I said if you did decide to go ahead and sell it to give me a call. I couple of weeks went by and I didn’t hear anything and grew more and more frustrated that I couldn’t find what I was looking for, that was until the night before we went to the hospital to have my third child. The owner called me and said he had been thinking about it again and she was back on board with selling it if I want, my wife and I were out to dinner and I turned to her and asked hey before we go to the hospital tomorrow would you care if I swing by and look at that boat we had talk about. She gladly and happily said sure no problem, I know this is our third child we knew the deal. After looking at the boat it was in rough shape the hull was in good condition, but the engine have been open for months if not years due to a cracked block the wind screens were not installed the tower was not secured down and have no seats or cushions as they were in a barn. I spoke with a gentleman and told him about what the deal was and he gladly excepted a down payment as I could not in good conscience bring this boat home right before I go to the hospital. The day we return from the hospital with our second beautiful boy, I went to go pick the boat up. Previously he had mentioned there were some issues with the title but he was hoping to get that squared away with the bank. After a lot of discussion he said he wasn’t able to do anything with the bank but he’d be willing to help out with whatever I needed to get it transferred. I’ll leave out the specifics, but basically he lost his bill of sale for the boat and trailer, and wasn’t sure what to do as the previous owners were no longer where they were. After reaching out to a couple title agency’s arm stumbled upon the Florida fast title in Tampa and Karen was fantastic. I just happen to have what seem to be the one trailer in America that actually have a heart stamp didn’t number on it. Karen searched the previous owner of the trailer through that Vin number and was able to process a bill of sale from The original owner to the person I bought it from, and then from Him to me. The searching and title process took a good couple of weeks, after having the boat sit in my yard for months, I am happy to say I am finally the owner of a Nautique!!
The boat needs a new engine and new tower and a whole lot of TLC. But I cannot wait to get going on the project. If anyone has any good mechanics in Tampa please comment below, I thought about taking it to Orlando but when I spoke with them before they seemed a little hesitant.
