RPM gauge adjustments?

I had my dash off the other day to install a new depth finder and got to looking at the back of the RPM gauge. There are two plastic adjustment? screws. One looks like it can be set to 8, 6, or 4. The other just had an arrow around it I think.

What are these?

8-cyl, 6-cyl and 4-cyl mode settings.
