    From bad to worse

Hopefully you are all enjoying a nice day on the water. Our weekend has gone from bad to worse. Started with the boat overheating. Limped back to the dock and when we went to pull it out, the belt completely shredded. So off to the local dealer for a new belt and impeller.

Should be be good to go but get error codes for the O2 sensors. Back on the trailer and new sensors are installed. Hook up to fake lake and all vitals are good. Back in the water. Son runs a few laps and all looks good. Suddenly a new code pops up. DTC 0134 Open/Lazy. Of course dealer is now closed. Son calls to report that boat will no longer come on plane so he ties up to pontoon to shut it down. Now boat will not start and when he tries it makes a shrill whistling sound. Any ideas??

Sorry. Was using my phone. It's a 2011 SANTE w the 5.7L motor. Seems we may have two issues going. A bad starter (no idea where the heck that came from) and the mystery code which seems to be related to the O2 sensors which are literally an hour old.

This is literally the first time we have had an issue with this boat and it just won't stop!

Why do you think bad starter, cause of the shrill whistle or something else you found since posting?
When you removed the impeller to replace it, was it in good shape or were there chunks missing? If pieces missing on old one it could still be effecting your water flow since they get stuck in the cooler.
Was the belt old and why it shredded on you or is it possible that something else caused it? maybe a bearing went out on one of the belt pulley's and caused the belt to jump off and shred, if so it could happen again and I would double check all that stuff carefully (I would remove the new belt and inspect it for any marks or damage and also turn all the pulley's by hand to see if they are smooth and ensure there is no play in any of them....
Is it possible that your shrill whistle sound could be from a piece of the belt getting stuck around one of the pulley's, it heat up when it got run those few laps and is making the noise and/or causing it to not turn properly contributing to it not wanting to start? May be a long shot, but just trying to think of what could cause that to happen suddenly, assuming its somehow related to what started the issues you are having.

After you look everything over, I would go thru all the connections back there and be sure nothing got pulled loose like a plug wire or one of the wires to the O2 sensor.
If the boat would suddenly not "go on plane", sounds like it may have gone into limp mode and limited itself, so it could have started overheating again. Do you know what the original overheat temp go too and if there were signs of overheating when those laps were run?

(also just to mention so you don't run into a new issue, if your belt shredded make sure you clear out the bilge pump cause the pump can jamb it up if small pieces get in there and then not work when you may need it too....this happened to a friend of mine).

Hopefully you can sort it out quickly

Thanks. I really appreciate both your patience and willingness to share your thoughts. I will try to answer what I can. Today we left the dealer after replacing the O2 sensors. The dealer then hooked up his computer and ran all the diagnostics that he could. We ran the motor for 20 min or so at various rpm's in the parking lot (fake lake). It ran like a champ, threw no new codes and the temp was spot on. We figured all was good so off I went back to the lake. My son took the boat for 2 laps around the lake and all looked spot on. First one up on the surfboard and the DTC 0134 code pops up. Then it disappeared and popped up again. Pulled in the surfer and headed to the sandbar where our pontoon was (after dumping the ballast). On the way there it sounds like it went into limp mode. Son (25) said he could not get it on plane. Once he tied up to the pontoon he shut it down. When he went to restart it, there was a shrill whine and absolutely nothing as far as the motor turning over. Just a shrill whine.

Since we have had two overheating episodes (max was about 208*), we were watching the temp gauge like a hawk. In each of the previous episodes, the red warning light came on and it went into limp mode. This time the temp stayed right at 165 and the Yellow DTC 0134 was the only warning to appear. A note to CC. Having the heat warning appear on top of the temp gauge is not very helpful. Whats the temp? I have no idea because all I can see is the temp warning. We have no idea why the belt gave up the ghost. Both of our heat incidents happened at low speed (booze cruise and lake parade).

The impeller was in good shape. No missing pieces or signs of wear. It probably had 30hrs on it. Perhaps softened up a bit, or at least that is what the local dealer told me. It really looked fine but we replaced it anyway. At the local dealer, they changed out the belt and O2 sensors and then hooked it up to water and ran all the diagnostics, clearing the O2 warnings etc. We probably ran the boat for 15 minutes at different rpm's and absolutely nothing sounded or showed up as abnormal.

Just frustrating because we have a house full and neither us or the local dealer can figure out what the heck is going on.

Your welcome tho at this point it sounds like my speculations were likely off base. I wasn't sure if you were doing the work or the dealer was. You would think if they did the work that they checked things out pretty well but guess it depends on the mechanic.
What happened is a lot clearer now and I hope you are able to get it figured out quick, sorry I was not able to be helpful. The shrill whine is weird since motor would not turn over.

Here is an update on my heat "issues". The O2 sensors are wet, and the tech says the only way this can happen is if the exhaust manifolds have cracked and water is escaping. I have no idea if this is a real thing, but I don't think the dealer is trying to screw me. The whine is what we thought it was... a bad starter. That is also being replaced.

We have replaced the impeller, belt, O2 sensor and soon the exhaust manifolds. I can't think of anything else. First problem ever and can't express how frustrating this has been.
