Need a Transmission for a 1997 Nautique Super Sport

Unfortunately my bilge pump failed and I recently got water in the transmission of my 1997 Nautique Super Sport (has the GT 40 engine). My mechanic thinks I may need a new transmission, however I understand they do not make that transmission any longer, I will have to upgrade at considerable expense. Any suggestions on where I might find a good used one would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

To clarify, I am looking for a used original transmission, not the upgrade.

You can have your original unit rebuilt most likely and have warranty. That is typically not a big deal. I can't remember now but I think I spent either 500 or 800 for a rebuild. That was with me pulling it out.

Water in the V-drive? Drain the fluid, maybe twice, and send it.

Until it slips or won't go in gear you shouldn't have any problems.

Otherwise, like people have said. You can send it back to Walter or whoever built yours and have it rebuilt. There are also rebuild kits out there if you're handy.

Appreciate the responses. My mechanic seems to think I ran it too long to flush it out but he did mention that as a possibility. I asked about a rebuild and that did not seem to be an option, I don't think he has the time to do it. He may have a used one in his shop, he is going to look but I'm just trying to line up a backup plan if he does not. If I could find and purchase a used original transmission I would still come out ahead financially because to upgrade with the new model would be quite expensive and labor intensive I'm told. I am not mechanically inclined at all so rebuilding it myself is not an option unfortunately. Is there a parts house somewhere that may have an already rebuilt transmission? Thanks
