    Back cushion to non-skid conversion?

    Hi

About to have the back middle cushion re-covered and thought maybe I could convert it to a Seadek type material deck instead? Have any of you don’t this, if so how complicated (expensive) was it? Did you achieve the results you wanted? maybe you could post some pics? Thanks!!!

No pics of this option, but I have 2 friends that have installed SeaDeck on the bottom of their middle cushion and they flip it over to walk on it. They basically just cut the decking to size and used large staples to secure it to back of seat on the edges.
I have also seen a few where they converted entire back seat to SeaDeck like you are talking about to make one step. I saw a thread with some pics on the Mastercraft forum a couple weeks ago but cant find it now to paste a link for you to see.

On my boat, I added a custom "step" into the middle seat similar to what the G23 and the LSV23 have. Basically I removed the vinyl off the back seat and cut out a 12"x12" square hole in the seat foam and then filled that space with HDPE blocks (about 3/8" lower than the seat foam so the step would suck down a bit into the foam) and secured these "blocks" to the bottom HDPE panel for the back seat, then I had the seat recovered ith new vinyl like normal. Then cut/installed a 3/8" thick x 14"x14" HDPE piece after routering the perimeter on both sides. I used 4) screws to secure it thru the new back seat vinyl down into the blocks I had pre-installed (re-inforced those areas of the vinyl first), then I installed a piece of decking over the step. This way when you step on it, it does not sink down into the seat and potentially cause torn seams (tearing seams from stepping on the back seat vinyl was the main reason I did this modification)

Turned out awesome and no one has to step on seat now to get to swim deck. I did this back a year n half ago and it has worked perfectly.

Here are some pics of how I did it. I cut thru the old vinyl simply cause I was replacing it anyway....The NEW vinyl covered those insert blocks completed and was not cut out at all, the top piece was screwed thru the vinyl since after re-inforcing the areas of vinyl that the 4 screws went thru. I used 3" screws so the top step could be tightened down securely so the seat vinyl would not tear over time and that is also why the exposed step is 14"14" and the insert blocks below it are 12"x12" (also routered top edges of the 12x12 blocks so vinyl would not tear if someone stepped on the vinyl next to the seat)
