    Gt40 sluggish

I have a 98 gt40 that seems to be sluggish and won't go faster than 25 mph or so.....

I believe it's been a very long while since I changed the spark plugs. (at least 4 years or so). It only runs in fresh water and has about 620 hours on the motor. I pulled off a few of the cables from the distributor cap and noticed rusty ends on a few them. I already changed out the FCC filter this weekend. I have a racor in line fuel filter that needs a filter replacement.

I want to order a few parts to get a tube up done. Is there anything else that I should do... Any suggestions to guide me in the right direction to Resolve this issue?

I also had the throttle body replaced 2 years ago.

It had been running fine up Until a month ago or so. It still runs but when I put a few ppl on the boat and try wakeboarding it doesn't have full Power.

    Thank you in advance.

I would start with the plugs and wires and check your cap and rotor...

If that doesn't do it, then check your fuel pressure on the rail, especially under power with load.

Does your check engine light come on when you turn the key to the on position, and before craning the engine over? If not you may be riming in limp mode and not know the CE light is on.

I ordered the plugs, cables and rotor yesterday....both fuel filters as well. I will be changing all that out this weekend.

Yes the light does turn on before cranking the engine. I was also told to check the fuel rail. I know where the schrader valve is but not sure what equipment I need to run that check. Thanks for the help so far.

You can get a fuel pressure test kit at harbor freight for $20 or rent on from autozone. I just got my boat back today for the same issue and it ended up being a plugged fuel injector

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.. . Just wanted to report that my boat is running great The in line filter was the first thing I changed.. It was nasty !
Then the fcc filter, plugs, cables, distributor cap, and rotor. Finally added some good Ol fresh gas to the tank and it's running like never before Even start up is better as well. I had really neglected the motor. A Tune up is so important Plus I did it myself and saved a ton of money. I used the coupon code PND when ordering from nautiqueparts.com also.
                Thanks again PN forum
