Attached is a write up I did (with pictures) on how to replace the exhaust muffler on a SV211 V-drive. This would be a rare replacement. Also includes how to replace exhaust hoses and exhaust risers which would be more common. I did this over the winter so let me know if you have any questions/comments. I've got some sort of exhaust leak happening in the SV211, just doing my first water test. Unfortunately, the gases are crack-piped up into the driver's cockpit via the bilge somehow. It's nasty.
Nothing obvious so have to start poking around. 300hrs.

I would double check cooling system, impeller, hose leaks, etc. When I have had smells it has been due to leaks in the inlet side of fresh water system. If the impeller can't pull a vacuum due to leaks, the impeller will starve (and wear out) and no water will run through engine. Of course temp gauge will go up too. It's weird but bringing the boat up on a plane will force water through the impeller and temp will go down. Only really happens when idling.
If temp is not going up then you have an exhaust leak :-( Look for punctures in the hoses that connect the risers to the muffler. Those hoses are relatively easy to replace (vs. the muffler) but you do need to remove the riser(s) and get new gasket(s). Let me know if you have any questions.

I went headfirst into the engine box and used the 'ol soapy water spray trick (tip from another forum) to spot any leaks and found none. I sprayed down the works, manifolds, muffler etc.
I did confirm /find a fault in the compartment venting hose (see other thread). With that repaired no issues now, and I can always hit the turbine-fan-sized blower to pull air out of the boat. The exhaust must have been back-feeding through the open vents and doing a reverse flow thing.
It's true a spongy impellor won't work too well at idle for the EX343, at least on my SN200 which had a force-fed driveshaft packing.

thanks for the writeup/pix. Good for prep.
