G23 550 Low Power

I will give you a few more details. I had my oil changed by someone else, and afterward It pulled into the lake, filled up the ballast, and it was headed over to our surf spot, and the boat took a really long time to get on plane. I have never timed it, but if the boat normally takes 3 seconds to get on plane, it was taking 15 - 20 seconds now. Although that doesn't sound like a long time, when you are used to it happening quickly, it seems like minutes, but the boat was still in my first year of ownership, so I was still figuring things out. The weird thing was that it improved throughout the day, and the next time out it was fine. Anyway, some time later, I had the same problem, and being more familiar with the boat noticed that the NCRS was off, then it was fine. So in retrospec, that is what I diagnosed the original problem. No offense to NYRyan, but I am with Blueroom on this. The 550 is only 20% more HP than the 450, and based on what I have seen and read, it doesn't make a ton of difference unless you are massively weighted down, or at altitude.

I could understand the boat being slow to get to plane with NCRS off but mine wouldn’t get there. I’m talking 2 people in the boat, 3/4 ballast, and over a minute of plowing water before we gave up and just drained ballast. We’ll see soon enough. It’s still with the dealer and I trust they and PCM will get it figured out.

Boat is still at the dealer so I have no updates. Can someone tell me in the wakeboard pro setting, is NCRS automatically set? I believe it is, and if that’s the case then it’s impossible that NCRS has anything to do with not being able to get the boat on plane in this situation.

Just to close this thread out, I got my boat on the water tonight and it performed as it should. Dealer still says nothing was wrong with engine power however I ran the boat at full ballast with NCRS both on and off tonight and it planed just fine both times. I’m not sure why they would fix something and not tell me about it but I’m happy to have my boat back at full power.

Great to hear.

Our XR7 has been absolutely flawless. There is a fair amount of integration/coordination that occurs with various systems to make all this happen. It could have been a software or settings glitch with the speed control, NCRS, etc. that just reset itself.

Cpan13 I wanted to check back in with you. I have the exact same boat and engine, 2016 G23 with with supercharged PCM XR7 550. Last night, full ballast, 3 people. 1 session was wakeboard pro setting. No problems. Then about an 1.5 hours of surfing. Then went back to pro wakeboarding. That was when my driver felt a vibration as the but was pulling me out of the water. When the boat was running at less than 10 mph, it felt fine. But faster, it was starting to vibrate, like we had millfoil on the prop. Pulled the boat out, and the prop and everything looks fine.

So my questions...

1. How has your boat been since your last post in June?
2. I'm thinking maybe I should have turned the boat completely off and then restarted the boat. It sounds like this is all that was done to solve your issue right...having the computer restart all systems, essentially what blueroom posted on June 6 at 3:18pm?

I’ve put on 50 or so trouble free hours since I got my boat back. Keep in mind mine wouldn’t even get to wakeboard speed so we might not have had the same issue.

I can’t say for sure what the problem with my boat was, but I definitely turned it on and off multiple times and that didn’t fix it. The dealer did something.
