I had a 1995 Super Sport (OG SAN hull) and currently have a 2011 230. I have also ridden behind a 2011 210. Strictly from a wakeboarding perspective I prefer the Super Sport wake over either the 230 or newer 210. Even with the hydro gates at full vertical they just don’t have that same kick. Surfing is another story. So is interior space. But just for wakeboarding I’d stick with the OG SAN.

So, the newer 210's, as I said year 2010 and newer, the wakes are actually worse in your opinion? If so, how are they worse?
Can you more describe the wake on the 2016 G23 ?

I’ll try to do my best to explain my weighting without being in the boat...
Rear tanks have been removed and I have 600# sacks on each side of motor. I fill those roughly to 550# each so they don’t bulge out so far (I have yet to reinforce my walls between storage and motor).
I have a 380# sack in the belly that gets filled full.
I have 500# of lead I distribute throughout the boat. Usually 150# in the nose. I put 200# underneath rear seat. And leave 150# out in the open to move around depending on people placement.
I find this to be an awesome set up with 3-4 people in the boat and 1 rider.
I am familiar with the 2010 and 2014 210. Both newer and different hulls. They both took a lot more weight than my 2001 to equal a sub par wake IMO.
The 2010 had to have all stock ballast full which is probably 800-900#. Plus 1,600# in fat sacks and then 500# in lead. At that point it was a great wake but WAY too much weight in the boat for doing that every time I ride.
The 2014 was the same story. It had the pro ballast set up and I can’t remember how many pounds that was but it would need all of that and a boat full of people or fat sacks to excite me.
Both newer boats made a bigger wake with all that wake but still lacking the shape of the OG wake, which I love getting booted by.
The 2016 G 23 I’m familiar with has a great wake. It’s very consistent and meaty. It will boot you straight up like the OG and it’s capable of putting out a wake twice the size of the OG too. My knees are getting weak and I actually think the G is a bit ridiculous, although very fun to ride. I already tore my ACL, MCL and Meniscus last year behind the G23. Had surgery day after Labor Day 2018 and got back on the water mid summer this year. Felt great with my riding and got coerced into hitting a double up behind it in late August. Quite possibly the largest double up I have ever hit and also quite possibly the largest mistake I’ve made while riding. I’m pretty sure I re-tore some ligaments in my knee. I go back in for X-Rays mid October. So I’m a bit salty towards the G right now.

Thanks for the detailed response. My weight set up is very similar to yours - I even took out the back hard tanks too. I didn't like how they made the wake shape.
Anyway, for both 210s that you mentioned, basically you had to put a lot more weight in the boat to get a similar wake to your 2001 SAN? And, you're saying EVEN then, the wake didn't quite boot you like your 2001?
Very cool about the G23 - I haven't ridden behind one yet. Have you ridden behind a G21? If so, please let me know your thoughts.

The argument I think is misleading here. The 07-current 210 wake is pro caliber wake , it’s on par with the top wakes from any mfg as well as the entire Nautique line.
The difference is the OG 210 wake was a brick wall. It has zero transition and was one of the most unforgiving wakes in the industry , it was also very narrow There is a reaso the wake was never duplicated . Please don’t take that as an insult , the wake on the OG 210 is like nothing else on the market at all, but that’s why it’s such a love relationship for those that have it. As far as wake standards go like I mentioned it has zero transition , zero landing zone , and next to zero forgiveness . Once you start riding and sac out and 07-current 210 on a regular basis you’ll appreciate the love on the knees , the wake versatility for newbs and advanced riders , the double sized interior seating /storage and a much better ride across the lake. Not too mention it surfs as good as any 21ft’r can. There are so many pluses for the newer style of 210, but yes it doesn’t have the steepness and hard quick boot up like the OG 210, but it’s def still on the peakier side of wakes.

I second everything swatguy mentioned above. If my post came across as the OG being the best 21’ boat on the market, I didn’t do a good job explaining. The OG has a wale shape like no other. Most people who are madly in love with their OG, are disappointed that the brick wall feature isn’t present on the 07-current boats. Granted it comes with its benefits, longer transition = softer landings. If you want that transition and as close to a brick wall as possible, you’ll have to go the G route. I have not ridden a G21, but my guess is that it’s quite similar in shape to the G23 and G25, both which I have ridden.
I also want to say that I fully agree the 07 and newer 210s throw a great wave for surfing! I made a suction surf gate for the 2010 210 I ride behind, and when weighted correctly, it throws as good of a wave as the G IMO, but lacks the wave versatility. For me it’s hard to replicate a perfect wave on the G, but it seems like the 210 with a stick on surf gate is perfect every time once you get the extra sacks filled.
