I bought my boat last fall and it has been running great all summer. I noticed it was running rough and figured I would change the plugs and wires next time I went out. (Wires had to wait)
Holy crap I wish I had done it earlier. Its like a whole new boat. My zero to 40 went from 16 seconds to a smidge under 10. (Video verified)
So here are a few things I figured I'd mention about the job.
1. I hoped to figure out a set of wires I could buy from the auto parts store. Nope...I see why there isn't a cross reference now. They are clearly not what goes in some Chevy..lol They are much longer to get around the manifolds and also appear to have some type of outer coating. Something to make them "Marine" grade for sure.
2. The previous owner or his mechanic didn't gap the 41-110 plugs. they were set to the factory .040. I reset them to approx. .060.(I say approx. because I didn't want to mess with them too much...It was larger then .054 and smidge smaller than .060. Iridium plugs can be gapped if you avoid touching the iridium tip. (See pic below). When measuring, don't push or pressure the measurement part in there...it either fits without resistance or its too tight.
3. People pay way too much for these plugs from the threads I have read. I paid about 45 dollars at advance auto by ordering them online with the 25% discount.
