For the seat side angle bracket...it is a little hard to tell the mounting measurement distance from the backside. Can someone help me with that? Looks like 1 1/16" from side but not sure of the other.

Does anyone have a link they’d be willing to post for the gas shocks from West Marine (or other source?) I must be too simple-minded and can’t seem to find the right part. Thanks

Yep that is the one. And Mine actually does slightly assist in the 'lift'... Not a lot but it does.. I am very satisfied with the install. I actually bought double brackets and might do another seat on the other side too.

Installed mine yesterday and same as shag that I have a small amount of lift assistance at the top, but it holds great! Only took about 20 minutes to put on and under $50.

              Reviving this old thread.

I just added this to my new-to-me 2007 236. Turned out great. This thread helped me a lot, especially since my boat is a two hour drive away so I had to be prepared with the right stuff. I went with a stronger shock and it does lift and hold well.

Nice, don't think they had those in the right length when I did mine. I plan to do the port side seat as well so might just grab those.

Update! - Ordered the same shocks as knucklenitz and can confirm they work way better than the other ones.

I want to do this as well, but I am using the stock Coleman cooler, with the handles up. Anybody doing this set up with this cooler?

As long as you’re careful about how you mount the shocks, the factory Coleman fits just fine.

What a great modification! It took about 20 minutes. It was tough for my kids to hold the seat and unzip the cooler. We unfortunately do not have the factory igloo. Wish we did. I used all the parts knucklenitz provided the link for. I did modify the lower bracket. The backside of the ball stud sticks proud, so I welded around the frontside and ground down the back so it would sit flush without spacing out the bracket with washers. Here are some pictures. I included a picture of the upper because the ball stud sticks through it as well like the lowers did.

When my factory Igloo gave up the ghost, I order the Igloo Marine Ultra 36qt cooler that had the same dimensions as the original, but better handles and hinges and a stainless wire for the lid stop. While I no longer see it on Amazon, it appears you can find it at West Marine: https://www.westmarine.com/igloo-36-...-13333968.html.

BTW, I added the gas shock to the cooler cushion and LOVE it. I mounted it to the fore end of the cooler space. The placement of my brackets gives lifting assistance after a point and holds the seat at near its maximum height. The only downside is that you have to hold it back from slamming when you close / lower it.
