351W reverse rotation motor

Hi all,

I just bought a 1993 Nautique open bow with a 351W reverse and 1:1 tranny. It does not run at the moment and the previous owner didn't know much about it and tried to troubleshoot some of the issues on his own and made some mistakes that I found already. The first thing that I found is that he put on a LH starter so the motor was moving in the wrong direction and fuel was spitting out of the carb.
SSSSsssoooo, I'm wondering if anyone here knows the other parts that are also reversed for this motor. Fuel pump? Water pump? Anything important that I should be double checking before I get too far into this or cause some damage?

Are you sure it’s a reverse rotation? I have a 92 sport with the same motor and it’s not a reverse rotation. You might want to check out correctcraftfan.com they have a ton of knowledge on these older boats.

Your distributor and firing order is also different. You can check the distributor by pulling the cap and seeing which way it the rotor spins. Those and the starter should at least get the engine to fire up. Before you take it for a spin, it’s the same water pump but it’s mounted differently for standard vs reverse rotation.

Reverse rotation is rare but not unheard of in 93, especially with the 1:1. You should have an engine tag somewhere that will tell you what you’re working with if you’re unsure. This is one of those things ccfan is better at. It would probably be worth asking there as well.

I did a rebuild on a GT 40 motor and have some spare parts if you need. Also I have the intakes to make a fuel injected also if your interested and a 1:1 transmission that was mounted to a vdrive in my boat.
