Decontaminating 2001 SAN 210

I was at Lake Powell this past weekend when we were done I took my boat to the decontamination station and they said they couldn’t do the boat because it had 2 water intakes and it could burn out the impeller.

I was under the impression the starboard intake was for the engine and on the port next to the paddle wheel is an intake for the ballast. I mentioned that and they said the ballast intake was also an intake for the engine. Doesn’t sound right but I wasn’t going to argue with the parks service and didn’t want to risk any damage.

I’m hoping to educate myself, are there 2 intakes for the engine or are the ballast and engine completely separated?

My 2005 has one starboard intake for the engine, and 2 port intakes for the rear ballast. The intakes are all separate, and do not intermix in any way.

I would assume yours are the same.

There is only one intake for the engine. They were wrong.

Pretty easy to open it up and show them. Know your boat before you get to those contamination stations. It will help you and them. A lot of them are pretty uneducated.

We did open it up, 2 different people there looked at it. It sounds like it works just like I thought. It is new to me so I wanted to make sure before I tried to explain it to someone else.
