Pics/steps for winterizing H6DI OEM Heater??

Gents, any pics and steps to winterize a G heater from the H6 would be appreciated.

exactly which hoses to remove, how did you blow the lake water out...etc, and anything else.

There isn't much to it. Look at the PCM Engine manual and figure out which hoses go to the heater core. It'll be pretty obvious. They'll both run together and head up to the core which is in the driver's console.

Loosen the hose clamps on both of them at the engine and get one of them down as far into the bilge as possible. A lot of water will simply gravity drain. To get the rest out, you have a several options. You can shop-vac it out which is what I do. Just turn the shop-vac on and sorta clamp your hand around the hoses to form a decent seal and it'll draw the water right out. Or you can use compressed air to blow it out. If you go that route, just "tap" the lever on the nozzle until most of the water shoots out the other hose. Once it's almost all air, you can hold the lever down and let it finish.

Next find a funnel that fits one of the hoses. Hold it high and pour RV Antifreeze through until some comes out the other hose.

I find it best to just re-attach the hoses to the engine now rather than in the spring. It's one less thing to have to remember.

Another option: I use my tube inflator pump to blow out the heater line. The nozzle fits perfectly in the heater hose.

Yep, the two red hoses near port rear side of engine. I just unhook both and blow the lines out using a compressor fed into one. I don't add anti-freeze, and just hook them both back up to the engine so they're ready to go. Starting in 2020, the heater will again be part of the closed-cooled part of the engine, and won't require winterization.

Thanks guys. I already went through both the PCM owner’s manual and the technical manual.... neither cover heaters.... as that’s a Nautique item, not a PCM item.

anything else on the H6DI? Other than pulling all the blue plugs?

the owners manual actually says to remove the impeller and leave it’s cover off and separated over the layup period. And they solve the debate on the oil change... it’s to be done BEFORE layup... not in the spring.

I do this as well. Works great!

In addition to the blue plugs, I disconnect the water supply hose from the transmission cooler to make sure the water drains from the tranny cooler.
