GT 40 Cooling after ski run goes from 160 to 180

MY 1999 Sport goes from 160 normal operating temp up to 180 when you first go to idle after a ski run . It returns to 160 after a minute at idle. Changed the impeller and it still does it. Any thoughts?

Its just a bit of heat soak. At open throttle conditions, the raw water pump moves significantly more water than at idle. It has the ability to push that much more water through the engine and keep it cooler at high speed/loads. When you slow back to idle the engine is still trying to disipate the heat from the run, and with the lower amounts of water flowing through the block it take a bit of time for it to cool back down. Just a simple heat soak, but nothing to worry about.

Thanks I'll keep an eye on it. I monitor the temp all the time and have not noticed the increase before. I normally ski on a 86 MasterCraft with a Ford and it does not go up after a run, but we ski on it early morning when the air temp isn't 103 degrees.
