    2001 SAN engine access

I have v-drive boat with PCM GT40 and it looks like certain parts of the engine won't be easy to access. I was hoping that removing engine/storage walls would be enough to access engine oil filter, fuel filter, and impeller. However, it appears that engine/storage walls expose maybe just half of the engine, the bottom half is still difficult to get to.

I hope I won't have to remove what's under the storage compartments just to get the bottom of the engine (ballasts??). What do you guys do?

There will be bulkhead panels you'll need to remove. No way around it. That's still true of even the 2019 Super Air boats. How they're mounted changed over the years so you'll have to dig into it and figure out what's holding them in. Once you get them in and out a time or two it gets pretty easy.

hmmm, I am still not sure what bulkhead panels I have to remove. I already removed the once that divide engine and storage compartment. Do I have to remove the bottom of the storage compartments? There is another set of bulkheads dividing whatever is under the storage and the engine. If I am not mistaken there is ballast under storage, so I would have to remove ballast too

The ballast tanks most likely do NOT need to come out in order to access the raw water pump, oil filter and fuel filter. There will be more panels that are screwed or bolted in that have to be removed to get access.

I have a 2002 super air team edition. Mine has the wedge ballast tanks in the rear compartment on either side of the engine so it is slightly different. However the truth is you just have to get creative with accessing certain maintenance items on the engine. Some of them are a pain to get to that’s for sure especially the GT-40 that, for example, does not have a remote oil filter.

Get some lights in the engine bay and lay sideways on the ballast tanks, you should be able to get to everything you need. Or laying on top of the engine and reaching into the back is another option. Take your time and all maintenance items are doable on a vdrive, certainly not as easy as a ski nautique though!
