NEED HIGH OUTPUT ALTERNATOR....QUICK

Time to replace the stock 50amp alternator. I want to get a 100-130amp at least that will bolt right up to my 1995 GT-40. Anywhere to mail order one? I don't see them at skidim.com online. Should I just go to the dealer and pay the $$$$? Will I have to do some wire upgrading?
I've already got dual batteries on a perko switch.

Depend's how much does the dealer want for a upgraded alternator.??? I would say $400-500 for a installed alternator with waranty is a good deal from the dealer.
I have been threw a few diffrent HO alternators. IMO the Balmar alternator is a super heavy duty alternator. Check with www.westmarine.com or other online dealers. or direct www.balmar.net

You need a series 97 balmar alternator. That will bolt right up to your GT40.
you have a single 2 inch foot for mounting pourpous if any one ask's. If you want a donley carging syste check this out

I'm no electrical pro but had a similar situation. I added another battery, upgraded amps, added heater, pumps, etc. and the 50a stock alternator was just too puny. To minimize fuss I ordered a 100amp alt upgrade kit from MidWest CC which included specific instructions on hookup to the GT40.

THAT being said, that alternator fried about a month ago and to get back on the water as soon as possible, I had them send me the same kit again. I'm HOPING the alternator was just a lemon and the new one won't have a short life. So far so good.

I'd like to get the previous 100a one rebuilt and re-package it back up with the conversion kit and hopefully set someone up in your situation for cheap. I haven't taken the time to get it checked out, though.

For a simple upgrade, it's difficult to beat the upgrade kit from CC. It cost me about $325. However, I can't attest (yet) to its reliability. If you're handy, might be better off if you can score a heavy duty marine alternator from a local source.

Hey Grant.
On your website you show a picture of a 94-210. You mentioned I would need a 97 series and the 97 series show a different kind of mount on it. Now that I'm thinking about this I'm not sure I have enough room on my V-Drive to mount a dual belt system! I'm at work so I can't check out my boat....

Do I have to have the regulator to go with it?
How does all the wiring integrate into the stock setup? or does it?
If I can do this I might need some help here...................

I can get the MC-612-H for $235 if that is what I would need.

Woops My Bad your right you need a 94 210 Sorry I said 97 series you need a 94 series.

I went with the Max charge voltage regulator that will set ya back anothe $200.

I think Balmar has some internaly regulated alternators so you nmight not need the Max charge regulator.

IMO the digital (smart regulator )is what sets this system apart from others. So if you have the money just get both the alternator regulator package

Some balamar alternators dont need the digital regulator (mc-612) and some do.
It hooks up to the stock wireing real easy. Get one and Ill show you how to do it.

If you get a alternator and regulator combo Im sure you wont be sorry.

Like I said I have been threw a few diffrent HO alternators and there is a reason the Balmar system costs a few more buck's

I read through all the instructions on the mc-612 and it seems pretty easy.
Yeah, if I get it I'm sure I would have a bunch of questions for you.
I just bought two new Optima Blue Tops at Costco this weekend to replace my current two batteries, so that part is done. I have an existing Perko switch right now also so I don't know if that has to be rewired or not.

After thinking about it for awhile I remember when I changed my belts I had to actually loosen up my exhaust and push the muffler back to fit the belts past the muffler. My waterpump pulley is SO close to that thing. I need to know if this setup sticks out any further on the water pump (meaning those new pulley's you got)?
Also where did you get them from?
Sorry for all the questions, I just need to know a bunch of info before I go spend $$$ and then the **** pulley hits my muffler!!!!!
Also I'm leaving for Trinity on the 26th and I HAVE to have this done before then!

Where did you buy yours?
West Marine only shows the 94-165 and my price is $773. Is this a good price? I believe I would be ok with this size since I only have two amps for my stereo (NOTHING compared to what you are running!), heater, 3 ballast pumps.

I checked out my pulley last night and the stub on the water pump is about 1/16" away from the muffler! Does that new water pump pulley stick out past that stub on the water pump? If so by how much? I'm thinking I can loosen the the exhaust hoses and push the muffler back a little bit to fit that new pulley. Can you tell me the part numbers of the pulleys and where to buy them so I can get them ordered?
