2004 Excalibur 330 Circulating Pump Drain Plug Stripped

Winterizing my 2004 this season, I simply couldn't get the 1/8 brass plug on the circulating pump to grab any threads. So I pulled the pump off. There are virtually no threads whatsoever left in the pump.

There is a couple of threads (no pun intended) in the forum but no real solutions (other than epoxy it - I might end up doing just that)

my question is: has anyone ever successfully drilled and re-tapped the hole to say 1/4 NPT?

I'll post a picture of the waterpump (removed from the engine)

Here is the pump after I cleaned it up a little and re-tapped the hole to 1/4 NPT. Seems to work pretty well I think. Boat is headed to storage for the winter so I guess I'll know next spring/fall if it worked out!

      total repair cost $10

The new one would already be installed in my boat. That said nothing wrong with re-taping if the new plug actually thread in properly. That scaling would this be a concern though.

Daryl, nice looking repair and way to take matters into your own hands. I’ve retapped exhaust manifolds before with 3/4” plugs with success so I think you’ll be fine
