Residual value for an Excalibur 330 with freeze damage?

Long story short - about to replace the 330 in my 07' 220 due to freeze damage. The motor ran great prior to the freeze - still does, but one of the coolant passages must be cracked because raw water is finding its way to the oil pan. Exhaust manifolds and ecm/electronics are in good shape, so it seems like a lot to scrap. I thought about rebuilding the motor myself, but its more hassle than I have time to deal with right now... so it would probably just sit in the garage.

is there any value in keeping/selling the old motor, or should I just have the dealer scrap it?

Just an FYI from what I was told when I received my new motor, you won’t be able to replace it from the factory. The factory just rolled out the last 330 Excalibur in August.

I would say there is some value in keeping it, with that being said I didn’t keep mine because I simply didn’t have any space.

Depends on how much time/effort you're willing to spend on moving the remaining good components. There's a ton of good stuff and plenty of people willing to pay for it but it may not all go quick. I certainly wouldn't throw anything away without at least trying to sell the entire package locally as that would be the cheapest, easiest way without shipping anything. If that doesn't work I'd strip everything off and try to sell again as a package. Last option would be to sell individually.

The up side of selling components is that they'll probably go quicker and are easier to ship. The down side is that you'll be dealing with multiple people, multiple orders, multiple packaging and shipping which gets old quick and can really be a PITA,

You have to find the crack to determine what parts are good?

Interesting... when I was working with my dealer on replacement options this probably explains why they were having such a hard time finding parts. The first option was a long block, but they couldnt get one from PCM... then they were going to try another marine long block (merc or crusader) but they would have to swap the cam to use the stock ECM... and the price kept creeping up closer to a bobtail price and eventually they were just pushing for that.

By the time you get to a bobtail (crate motor) its only 10ish% difference between the 330 and a closed cooled ZR6 - so I figured since I was spending so much I might as well get an upgrade out of the deal and I went with the ZR6.

If you were closer to me, I'd buy that for $1,000 just to have all the bolt-on parts as spares. I feel like someone with an excalibur-powered boat is your likely buyer, given the unknown freeze damage and the unknown rebuild situation. I'm surprised you can't get a 5.7 short block? Maybe I don't know enough about it. For sure, it will cost a lot if you're paying labor. But I wonder about options for someone looking at this as a complete engine they'd like to get running again. That could really change what someone's willing to pay. Unfortunately, you might not know what the real damage is without taking it apart.

I think you have two main options for a repair - get an automotive block, some epoxy paint, and a rebuild kit and do a complete swap; or get a generic short/long marine block and add the heads and accessories. I think you would still have to swap to the pcm cam in order to use the ecm (which would mean a partial tear down of the new block).
