So how in the heck can I buy a new gauge, and the hours still show 999.9?? This is unbelievable design flaw and there is no other way to know the hours unless I drag the boat to the dealer... What an oversight on the part of Nautique.

They are likely getting the hours from the ECU, and can't display over 999.9. The hours aren't held in the gauge itself.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. Think Y2K. One would think it would roll over and start from zero again but when you're building new boats do you really care about 1000 hours?
Not to lay this entirely on the boat manufacture, these marvels of engineering are not the creation of the boat manufacture but the gauge system manufactures. I don't know of a single second generation gauge system that wasn't pure junk. Both Medallion and Teleflex are guilty of some of the worst engineering to hit the boating market. Both second generation systems are the topic numerous threads on how to do a complete retro fit from the two leading ski boat manufactures. Between junk gauges and poor quality vinyl in roughly the years 2000 through 2004 these boats demand serious scrutiny before purchase. One thing you can count on with these years is that if the gauge package and interior haven't been replaced you'll probably have to. The cost to do both can easily run $5K - $7K. Something to seriously consider when looking at older boats.

Yeah, there are a few posts on this...mine included.
Years ago this happened to me with my 2008 210.
I called faria that makes the gateway box. They said nautique engineers gave them the spec's so that is max that they built at nautique request to be reported to the gauge.
I called nautique and said not acceptable...So many years ago nautique sent me a plug in play improved gateway box...
So my old boat probably the only one out there that the gauge actually works and shows accurately past 999.9 what is on the engine ecu.

Yeah, somewhere along the lines they had faria make some corrected gateway boxes. Hopefully you get a free one like i did.
The disappointing thing for me is that nautique has been making boats a long time, so my expectation is they work out some of these type of things. they should have known it needed to go higher. They are not "brand new"...as the saying goes.
