Ceramic Coatings?

Hi all,

I'm a new member - just got our family's first boat (2015 G23 w/ black hull). The water in Central TX has lots of minerals and most I know use a vinegar solution to wipe down the boat to keep it looking nice. I did it once with a friend and found it to be a major pain, so I'm looking at options to save time. A well-respected local detail shop recommends Feynlab's Hydro Marine coating. Does anyone have any experience with it?

BTW - I'm on Lake Marble Falls. Any members here I'll see??

Haven't heard of it but I've seen products claiming the same magical solutions numerous times over the years. Ceramic coating have hit the auto detailing market hard over the past two years with most needing application by a trained installer. I've been told they're great but haven't met anyone willing to pay the price for the installation for a daily driver that I would need to see to evaluate their worth. This product would seem to be the same.

I always get a bit worried by new products like this as I'm willing to bet if it discolors or damages the gel coat you'll be on your own or hiring a lawyer to go after the marina/manufacture which is not going to be a fun time. If you want a $170 DYI version of the product you could try the ceramic product Auto Geek carries here.....

A more traditional approach I know a lot of people swear by is Babe's products.

On another note there's thread on here about black hulls and if they're difficult to maintain. Seems since you'd be willing to spend considerable money to have this coating applied you'd be on the side of they're more difficult to maintain.

Thanks for the insights! I've not see the Gyeon product before. Have you (or anyone else) tried it?

While expensive, I'm leaning toward the local detailer's application of Fenylab since they have experience with these types of products, and maybe because I'm a little lazy...

I'm on LBJ, just north of you. I have a 2017 G23 right now and a Paragon on the way. I have a friend in this business in Houston who does all my vehicles (Feynlab and XPel PPF.) He does marine as well, and will no doubt do my Paragon with the Feynlab marine product.

A Paragon would have come in combination with a divorce, so I went with a used G23. I also have XPel PPF on a car, but have no experience with Feynlab ceramics - marine or otherwise - although I've heard lots of good things about their auto coatings. They apparently have a "hydro" marine coating which is different from their automotive applications. Is your G23 coated?

It would be interesting to hear the cost for this application. I would expect it won't be cheap if they're doing a total installation as the boat will need to be removed from the trailer to do the entire bottom.

My understanding is they're not removing it from the trailer & coating the bottom of the hull where you can't see it. But they are doing everything else - interior, all painted surfaces/tower, interior clean/coat with a different Feynlab plastic product, polish/coat windshield, tire coating on the trailer. The Hydro Marine product has 5 layers, so it seems like a lot of work. It has a 5 year warranty. It's around $2.5k, which seems okay to me - IF it works.

My G23 isn't coated; we have intended to, but have not. Done well, by a skilled individual, this stuff isn't cheap. My resource happens to own a business that does this, and we are friends; as such, I'm not exposed to as a high a cost. I will absolutely do the Paragon, and it will be the Feynlab Marine product.
