2009 SV211 Fuel Gauge Issue

I'm a new owner of a 2009 SV211 with a Fuel Gauge that will only ever read Half full (although I have seen it jump to full on one occasion).

I've read several of the forum topics have done the following troubleshooting:

1. Read the resistance from the fuel sender unit using a multimeter by connecting probes to the two pins. It read 75ohms with the tank about half full. I read somewhere it should read 180 when full so looks like sender unit is working? Next time out I will fill it up and take another reading (fully expecting that reading it to increase).
2. Shorted the pins using a paper clip on the cable that would go from sender unit to the gauge. The gauge still read half full - exactly the same as when not shorted.

I've also noticed when turning on the ignition the fuel gauge needle will move smoothly to 1/4 tank and then jerkily move up to 1/2 where it kind of flickers every now and again. I'm confused the gauge reads half full regardless of being shorted or not.

I'm suspecting the gauge but I'm in New Zealand and wanted to be sure before ordering one and dismantling the dash.

Any advice would be welcome and appreciated. Thanks!

Most likely it is the gauge. Take another step one reading and see what you get. If it goes up with a full tank, just replace the gauge.

Here's the bad news: The proper gauge for your boat is no longer available! You're going to have to find a similar gauge in the proper size.

Thanks Jeff...I will follow your advice and will report back tomorrow on taking another reading.

It's a shame the gauge won't match the others! I'll start looking around for something that looks similar. Do you happen to know ohm range for the sender unit?

I wanted to check something please... I found this gauge for sale online - looks the same as what I have:

It looks exactly the same as what I have in my console but is described as "GATEWAY SYSTEM FUEL LEVEL GAUGE - 70021". It's the same part number on the Nautique Parts website. https://www.nautiqueparts.com/produc...uge-2007-2008/


Assuming I can find one in stock somewhere will it work?

Also...makes me think my Model Year is actually 2008 and not 2009 as I was lead to believe.

I had a similar behaviour on my boat, a 2005 Nautique Sport 216 with an erratic fuel gauge, and I replaced the gauge and the problem was fixed, so I agree with what Jeff is saying. Bummer about your gauge not being available thought, I didn't have that issue At least it's easier than replacing the sending unit!

Last time i checked faria still repaired their gauges for a fee...that way it will still match...

I have finally gotten around (plucked up the courage) to remove my dash to remove and test the fuel gauge. However the pins are not what I expected. There were two plugs connected labelled A and B each with 4 pins. Which plug and pins do I connect my 12v, Ground and Sender wire to in order to validate the gauge is working please?

Also I noted an uninsulated wire on one of the connectors. Should I be concerned?

The gauges run off a data bus. There are two connectors for daisy chain.

Thanks...makes sense. So in order to troubleshoot this further I should be tracing the cable from the fuel sender to the black box and checking there? Is there anyway for me to bench test the gauge?
