GT-40 slow after oil change???

I had my dealer do a standard oil change and filter last week on my 01 SAN. They also checked and cleaned the spark arrestor. I took the boat out on saturday and it seemed very slow out of the hole. I asked the dealer about it and they said it is not from the oil change.

Does anyone have any bright ideas why the boat may be slow after an oil change or cleaning the spark arrestor?

Check the spark arrestor. Maybe they put it back on incorrectly and it is jambing the choke closed (or partially closed). Might as well check the oil level while your at it.

I am assuming a carbureted GT-40, otherwise, look from some other part the mechanic left disconnected while cleaning the spark arrestor.

Check for loose wires. The electronics that makes the various operational modes (start-up, accel, limp, etc) are freaking complicated. I stuck my nose into the GT-40 manual, and nearly got a brain tumor reading how all the sH*& really works. If one wire, or feedback sensor is loose or out of place, who knows what could happen. While the motor is on, check for loose connections to see if a wiggle affects the idle.

What do you mean slow ie... Speed wise, wont rev properly or just no power what so ever. Does it have a poor hole shot? Is it possible your prop is bent? Being a mechanic myself I would make sure He did not double up on the oil qaunity. It is possible on a over worked guy to put oil in a motor twice. I have seen it many times in a busy shop, These are just some basics to check..
