Battery for 1997 SN

I have a 1997 SN that I purchased 2 years ago and plan to replace the battery this season. The prior owner said the batteries in it have been in it for 8 years. The primary battery in it is an AGM Intimidator with 775 CCA / 955 MCA (part no is 9A34M). The boat also has another battery up under the front hull area that runs the stereo and has a cutover so that the stereo will not drain the primary battery. I'm looking for a replacement for the primary battery (just to be safe) but only found one that had 775 CCA but only 890 MCA. I would think that would be fine, but wanted to check with the forum to see what other's are using. It's a 351 carb motor (not the GT40).

Anything with at least 350 CCA is fine. You'll need a Group 48 or a Group 65 in order to fit in the battery box with a lid that actually closes. Most people use the Group 65.

Also, based on that picture, you might want to consider replacing those old battery cables, especially since the ones you have use crimp style connectors. Those are notorious for allowing corrosion into the wire itself in a marine environment.

Although I don't have a Ski Nautique, I just replaced my size 24 batteries in my G23 with size 34 Optima AGM batteries, so if you are looking for an AGM type battery this may be an option. The dimensions are as follows: A group 34 is roughly 10L x 7W x 8H. About an inch lower in height than a size 24 battery. They have 800 CCA and 1,000 MCA.

Thanks Jeff/GMLIII. So Jeff, since the battery in it now is a Group 34, I shouldn't have an issue replacing it with the same size? I realize CorrectCraft says it should use 48 or 65, but the current one seems to fit just fine?

I would measure your battery to see if it is the same dimensions that I posted above. The bottom line, you will find just as many lead acid lovers as there are AGM haters on this site. I purchased the AGM type mainly for the longer life of the battery vs lead acid.
