OK, there was a convo (of which I was a part), but want to revisit... Someone told me GoPro Hero 8 Black. Before I hit "buy" on Amazon, I want to ensure that I'm making the right purchase... Let's rumble.

If you get it to work please post exactly what you did and what versions Linc. I've spent 3 weekends trying to make a 2019 G21 work with Hero8 to no avail. I can connect the Hero8 to phone to get the password for wifi set. I know to change it to 2.4ghz so Linc will see it. I write the unchangeable wifi password down on paper because leaving the Hero8 in preferences will cause it to not pair. I connect to phone to make the Hero8 goes into hotspot mode. Then I disable wifi and bluetooth on phone or turn off phone, pretty much tried every thinkable combination. The Hero8 is then discoverable on Linc and prompts me for password however after typing the long password in the screen and pressing enter the screen disappears and no paired gopro. I've noticed that without the phone initiating the bluetooth to gopro and causing the gopro to enable hotspot mode and to broadcast a ssid the gopro was not discoverable. Confirmed with wifi sniffer too. Its as if the Hero8 requires the bluetooth or needs to be tricked with a phone? And the Linc is missing a step. Wifi ssid/password should be enough to pair. Is it WEP, WPA, WPA2? Does Linc need an update?Originally posted by RDT-G23 View Post

I tried to sync my Hero8 tonight. The boat found the camera, but it would not sync. Calling my dealer this week and see what he says.

I did get mine to connect to both my G23 and the P23. Even when I had it working on my G23 it wouldn’t always connect. I finally gave up and realized I might as well just control it with the GoPro remote or phone app. It’s just as easy to leave my phone in the holder and the GoPro app open. Also I only use it for surfing now. I don’t like the wakeboarding video since it’s doesn’t zoom in.

The only thing that even made it better on the G23 was that it would start/stop the video with the throttle when you powered up/down. Otherwise it’s easier to control with the phone. Also the phone makes it easier to quickly go back and look at the video.Originally posted by bblair View Post

I was told when I purchased my new Nautique that it syncs with GoPro. . It should be an easy process to sync a go pro despite the model (hero 6,7,or 8) We buy Nautiques because they are an industry leader. I think if enough clients contact Nautique the change will be made and this will be resolved. Hopefully before summer starts. Thoughts?Comment

I had a thought about the pairing process. I know you had to configure the gopro with a phone at least once to force it create the wifi and set the password,however once done you would never need to pair with phone again. If I delete the camera from gopro app and when I get to boat I pull the battery on gopro after plugging the battery back in and starting camera, will it start the wifi? If so this will prevent the phone from connecting on bluetooth and wifi. The problem I've had is that the wifi didn't show up until I connected with phone at the boat but I wonder if pulling the battery and giving camera a sort of reboot at boat does that make a difference? I’ll be honest most of the time when I’m on the boat I don’t have time to play around with it. I didn’t have any trouble getting either boat to initially connect but then when I was ready to use it with someone in the water it wouldn’t work so I would just move on. It may very well have been a conflict with my phone. I didn’t care enough to spend any time on it though.Originally posted by bblair View Post

MG94 I agree there is always something more fun to do than make this work. I spent another hour yesterday and a few times saw connecting on the screen of the LINC even for a really long time but no joy. The real challenge appears to be activating the Hero8 wifi and then making sure the phone is disconnected. I'm giving up on the Hero8 and after some research on Hero7 I suspect same problems. I'll buy a Hero6 to test out because its wifi activation steps are not tied to the bluetooth best I can tell. Will post results once I test. Thanks again for feedback anyone else with success I would love to here which models worked.
