Problems with my Correct Craft Trailer:

Has anyone had problems with their correct craft trailers? I have had a rust problem for years and just kept it cleaned off and repainted. This time it is more difficult. The beams where the bunks are have a breakout in the drain hole in the front of the beam.
Has anyone seen this problem before? This one is a genuine Correct Craft trailer 1993 the last year they built their own.

I know people have seen this posting. Why don't they just leave a message like, mine never has a problem? I am going to buy another new one, everyone seems to think it is something made exactly for that year of Ski Nautique. I was having problems getting anyone to get moving on the issue. So I ordered a 2006 model. I am buying it site unseen. I don't even know if it looks like a 1993 model. One thing for sure, it cost a lot more than back then! Are you sure no one has a rust problem?

Thank you for the response! I have a bigger problem even though I sand blasted the rust off on the fenders in the 3rd year and repainted those. The other problem was the wood on the steps was rotten in that same year. I replaced those all the way around and had no trouble after that. This time there must have been a problem with the trailer not draining. It rusted out just behind the front drain hole near the boat lift. I tried to get someone to repair it by welding on a new section of box channel. It seems nobody wanted to take the time. I hope someone will see this and give me a clue how to maintain the trailer better. I guess just washing it clean doesn't make it a stable investment. The 2006 should be here in a few weeks, I hope that my technics are better or the Ramblin Corporation has actually protected the metal and wood. Mine is a 1993 and yours is a 1992. It should be very simular to mine. Look in the drain hole, is there any rust?

There are a number of variables that contribute to trailer-life. Box channel holds more moisture than open channel, thus it will likely rust faster. How frequently you put the trailer in the water, the type of water (even "fresh" water can contain some small amounts of salt that will accelerate corrosion), and where you store your trailer factor into trailer life. I use open channel and store my boat and trailer in a covered shelter. My trailer is still in good shape, sans the brakes I had to replace because of rust, at seven years old. Good luck.

I have a problem with the brakes too. It looks like the master cylinder is not working now. I tried to open the filler cap but it doesn't want to turn. The Dico Surge system bucks foward and back with no significant results. Lately it has just stayed all the way back and it is impossible to remove the hitch when it does that. I have to chock the wheels and pull the truck foward until it breaks loose and gives clearance for the hitch latch to release.

I just hope I can open the filler cap. It was looking like it was going to break the top off. I have only had it off once and haven't had problems until now. It is making some kind of ratcheting sound when the trailer is moving. I am glad it is not far from the boat lauch, only a few 100 feet.

Your acuator is shot if it is the original The average service life on them with proper maintence is about 5-7 years which is not long. But they do take a pretty good beating over the years. I flush mine every year and keep the brake shoes adjusted pretty tight so I feel them slowing my truck some what. It also keeps the bumping to a minmum, when you move from a stop. My 93 trailer was rusted bad too. Ram Lin is a copy of the original trailer CC used so I have always liked them... I hope you got metal on your steps for your new trailer, instead of the crappy wood and carpet that makes the trailer rust.

Thank you for your support! I have been working with Midwest Correct Craft on another issue too. I can't get the right hinges for the motor box, meaning the screw holes are located from the manufacturer differently now. They are trying to help me, if you have a motor box hinge problem you may run into this too. I just don't want to drill into something that has holes in it already making it less durable. Or drilling new holes in the motor box. This should have never happened, they claim it was only a few dozen of these but I believe that is not the case. It was discontinued 7 years ago C E Shepherd company told me this. My boat is 13 years old and I am the orginal owner. It has to be a cover up, but why?
