How to remove round courtesy light

Silly question but how do I go about removing these courtesy lights? I'd like to pop it out in order to give it a good clean. I've tried prying it but it won't budge. Maybe more force?

The scum you can see isn't coming off easily. I've tried soap, water and scrubbing, compounding (by hand) but neither helped. I plan to using an acid mixture next unless anyone has a better idea?

The only way I have been able to remove is lightly pop that stainless cover off, but it is stuck onto the car housing underneath with 3m tape, so you'll have to re-do that to put it back in.. I found out when i replaced them for a different color... Once the cover is off, there are two small phillips head screws.

The silver ring unscrews. Turn it counterclockwise to remove. Sometimes they have adhesive on them, also. If no adhesive they unscrew very easily.
