    Surf Select Switch Pairing

I had a boat delivered about a month ago and finally had time this weekend to play around with some of the toys. I was unable to get the surf select switch/remote paired. Can someone with a relatively recent boat tell me where my problem may lie? Is it the switch or how I am pairing it? I went to the system screen, and it did the 30 second countdown to pair. After the countdown, I never saw an icon or received any confirmation that the pair was successful. The remote definitely did not work to change the side while underway. There is a no instruction/information in the manual, etc. about how to pair and what to be on the lookout for, when pairing is successful.

Figured I could talk to the dealer, but I suspect that someone on here has had a similar problem. Thanks in advance.

It should have come from the factory already paired. In the LINC there's an icon in the upper right corner that looks like the surf-select remote. When you press the button, does that icon light up? If so, you're paired and ready to go.

All of that said, the remote doesn't do anything but switch sides. A smart watch is a much better way to go on these boats. If it's a 2017-2019, you can order a Pebble classic off of eBay. If it's a 2020, it's Garmin.

Thank you for the response. Just to clarify, is it upper right or upper left?

Upper LEFT! Yes, you are correct. I shouldn't post until I've had caffeine...

I have experienced exactly the same problem as Interjon, new boat, delivered mid March to Dubai. The surf select icon shows in the top corner, but it will not connect, been through the connecting process a few times but when I press the button, the icon doesn’t light up and when I go to the surf select page and press the button, the wake doesn’t switch side. I have contacted the dealer I bought the boat from for advice but they think their may be an issue as I have done everything correctly in the connecting procedure.

Any other syncing trick advice would be welcomed.

          Cheers Ali

Honestly, for both of you: Skip the stupid Surf Select and just get one of the compatible Garmin Fenix watches. With that you can adjust NSS, NCRS, Surf Side, Boat Speed, Volume, Track, and Ballast Shift right from the watch while you're surfing.

I would second Charles's statement above. The Surf Select device in my opinion is worthless. I have used mine once and since that time, it hangs on my key rack collecting dust. The watch is the only way to go. I use the watch every time I go surfing

Yea. We're so into the watch that we actually turned around and came back to the dock the day I forgot it. The watch lets you experiment. You can bump the NSS a notch one way or the other. Or change the boat speed. Or NCRS setting. I find that people are more likely to experiment with the watch than yell at the driver to change settings.

Thanks for the advice, I have bought the watch, but it is currently sitting on my colleagues desk in the US as he was going to bring it to me in Dubai, but hasn't been to the office in the last 7 weeks...

I am more frustrated because I don't know if the remote is the problem or if there is a bigger issue with the system..??

I also can't get the GoPro to sync and I have tried both the hero 4 and 5 and been through all the syncing advice I can find here and elsewhere.

                  Cheers Ali

I just took delivery of a G23 with surf select and the blue switch was not paired. I opened it up and first confirmed the lithium battery inside was dead as a door nail. After replacing the battery I pressed the button on the circuit board itself and saw that the board has a small green light that operates when the button is depressed. I then went outside to link it to the boat and found the boat to say "press the button on the devices you wish to link" during the 30 second countdown. Well if you just press the button like when you open your garage door then it doesn't link. But if you hold the button down for the entire 30 seconds while confirming a good signal is being sent by watching the green light on the circuit board then sure enough, it linked up to the boat just fine. The link screen should say "press AND HOLD the button on the devices you wish to link". Hope this helps.

Throw that piece of junk in the garbage can and get a Garmin Fenix watch. I used mine one time now it collects dusk on a hook in my house. The watch is the only way to go. You can do so much more with the watch vs the surf select handheld device

Yeah I am getting there, one step at a time. I'll eventually breakdown and buy the $600 watch, but I currently have the surf select switch at no additional cost. Its always the trade off between a watch, a new wakeboard, surfboard, hydrofoil, etc.

You may not want to consider bringing your new +/-$170,000 G23 to SML this weekend . Getting ugly on the water and only getting worse. We will be 3 feet over full pond by the AM. Dangerous driving an inboard or any boat realistically with all the debris in the water. Sad for all the folks trying to make a living on the lake this holiday weekend because it is going to be a "BUST" bigtime unfortunately
