Barefoot Nautique (Mid 80) Questions and Guidance

Hello All,

Looking for a little bit of guidance and information that has been lost over time. I am starting to work on our family boat which I believe is a 1985 Barefoot Nautique BBC 454.

Looking for information about the following:

Timing and Total Timing info BBC 454 please confirm:
I read base timing is 10* BTDC does anyone run more or less timing with any success? Also Total timing at 3000 RPM should not exceed 34* Correct? (I am currently converting to MSD digital ignition and distributor)

I am looking to track town the total passengers/max weight sticker info that goes next to the throttle. What do i need to find that info?

Does anyone have pictures of the back seat in a Barefoot Nautique? trying to find for sale or build replacement to hide ballast bags

Any Good Ballast Tank Options for closed bow 2001 Nautiques? pictures of layouts?

Our friends over at CorrectCraftFan.com will be able to answer these questions in a second. They are very knowledgable about the older Correct Craft boats. Those guys have helped me out with the 454 that I had in a Martinique, and the results were great.

10 deg is correct 34 deg at 3000 is max I believe I would be very careful going any further than that unless you install knock sensors. You can easily blow a engine if you advance the ignition to fare.

Sadly I am still waiting for a conformation on CorrectCraftFan.com so cannot post. But some good news. Ended up running the following:

8*BTDC Base Timing
34* BTDC Total Timing (Thanks Peter6000)

The reason we are running 8* instead of 10* is because it worked better with the mechanical advance limiter bushings that MSD gives you with the new distributor. We are running the bushing that gives you a total of 25* at 3000 RPM. The boat has never sounded better.

New Problem. Thermostat seem a bit sluggish or not fully functioning. Ran it in a pot of boiling water and does not seem to open completely.

Can anyone help me track down a replacement? I cannot seem to find the definitive answer on the following chart you guys have (Awesome BTW!) Pictures of thermostat attached. Should be running a 140*/160* not 175*

Looks like my thermostat in my 2000 ski with a GM engine. Nautiqueparts has it. It’s a rather expensive one but it’s one of the only places I could find it.
