With all of the stuff now in the hull of the G's, getting a wrench on the T-handle drain plug can be really tough if it is to tight to take out by hand. I have searched the internet and I can't seem to find a tool to make this easier. It would seem someone must have made a slotted socket that can slide over the T-handle and spin out with a socket wrench. When I finally give up on google I turn to PlanetNautique for help. Let me know if you have found something.

On the rare occasion when mine is too tight to remove by hand, I just use a pair of pliers (or anything that can give a little more leverage), and grab the top of the T with those.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. I agree with Jeff, that T handle shouldn't be that tight, but on the rare occasion (maybe a few grains of sand found there way into the threads), maybe a pair of pliers of channel locks just to sneak it loose.Comment

I keep a cheap tool kit in the boat, and in that is a stubby little adjustable crescent wrench. It's perfect for that, and incidentally good for battery terminals as well, because it's short, and the handle is rubber coated, so you really can't slip and end up shorting the battery... not that I've done that...
The only advantage of the adjustable crescent over pliers is that it's less likely to gouge the T-handle and make a sharp spot to cut you in the future. Otherwise, all the same.Comment

Agree that it shouldn't take much and that really it should never get that tight, but surely someone has created a cool tool to help in desperate times....Comment

I think what we're saying is, in those desperate times, you probably already have several tools that would work, it's not worth the trouble of creating and/or keeping around a specific tool for that. A lot of these T-handles also have a squared part, so you could put a 9/16 or whatever size open end wrench on them, again, if you really had to.Originally posted by pfield2jay View PostComment

A water shut off tool would work. It’s cheap and can pick up at any hardware store.

I keep a 4 inch water pipe in the boat, I think it’s 1/2 inch diameter. Works great as you can get some good torque on it and removal is easy.Comment
