We are testing a 2004 SS. The red dash light stays lit. Is that the v-drive oil pressure light or is that an engine oil pressure light? Does anyone know?
The big red check engine light will come on if the engine has low oil pressure or is running hot (or if one of those switches is bad).
The little red light will come on if the oil pressure in the V-drive is low.
Assuming you're talking about the big Check Engine light, if the temperature and oil pressure are normal, it is very likely that the oil pressure SWITCH is bad. It is a common issue, and an easy fix. If the temp and oil pressure are good, I would not let that light stop me from making a purchase.

The buyer of the boat got a great deal. Low hour boat with a blown engine just before the pandemic boat price escalation. Fast forward one year and it’s being RE-engined, probably via Michigan Motors with a fresh ZR6. More to come.
Me neither. I encouraged a walk-away with the red light. Boat fever took over. I’m betting he could sell it now for what he has into it even with a bad engine. Lots of boat fever to go around.
He’s got his new long block ready to launch this afternoon. Even the mechanic is excited. He had the mechanic install a mechanical gauge for oil pressure so no more wondering.
We shall see….or at least hear. I’ll update on the repair cost too.
Boat is back in the water. Runs great. $8600 all In for a new Jasper 6.0 long block and all labor. Engine was $5200 of that. Now he can finally enjoy his 2020 boat.
