Gasoline Pools on top of engine

    Hello everyone

91 SN with a PCM 351. I have some gasoline pools on top of my engine. I uploaded pics and I hope you’re able to see them clearly. Are these pools from lines or is there a gasket seal somewhere causing this?

Yikes! I would suspect a stuck float in the carb. This will allow the gas to overfill and it will spill out the vent. But it could be a seal or a leak in the line. Dry it off, air it out (really well) and run it...should be pretty clear where it's leaking from.

It's time to rebuild or replace the carburetor. You have a bad gasket on that front bowl. Also, there is a gasket and fine screen where the hard fuel line enters the carb. That could be leaking.

What ski dave said... Most likely.. And obviously, do NOT run the boat till it is addressed.

If you don't personally plan on rebuilding yourself or buying new you may want to go to the MasterCraft Team Talk site and ask on there for the guy that rebuilds these. He's been doing it for years and knows these carburetors cold. I think he'll also do a cross ship on the core for you as well. If you're not solid on these I would highly recommend him. You'd also be buying local, from a guy in the U.S. and not some cheap China junk. I'm not buying anymore China junk unless faced with no other choice going forward.

The good news is Holly’s are really easy to rebuild with a decent manual and one special tool (the jet screwdriver). But even if you send it off, be REALLY careful with that fuel line. The brass is really easy to strip.

So when you run and rev the engine in neutral can you see where it comes from? Seems counter-intuitive to rebuild before you know where it is coming from.

Discount Inboard Marine had the metal fuel line, screen and washer 2 years ago when I serviced my Aunt's 95 Ski Nautique.

Don't try to save a few $$$ and end up having an engine fire. Get this serviced soon.

Hi STHockey88 Before you do anything with that Holley carburetor you need to check the hard fuel line Flare nut. What you need is a 1 inch open end wrench and a 5/8 line wrench or if you do not have a line wrench you can use a open end 5/8 usually. first hold the filter adapter the large nut on the float bowl with a 1 inch wrench now take the 5/8 wrench and back off the hard line flare nut. You can now remove the adapter from the float bowl and make sure it has a sealing washer on it. If it does reinstall that adapter into the bowl snug be careful the treads are aluminum. Now install the hard line onto the adapter tighten the line nut while holding the adapter nut with the one inch wrench do not let the adapter back off because that's where you get your leak. Clean up the gas spill and start it up while watching for a leak.. It also looks like you have some residual fuel under the throttle shaft if it gets bad you will need to have a bushing machine for it This is a very common problem with Holley Carbs both the line and the throttle shaft machining With any kind of gas leak I always have a blanket near by to smother the fire with no clean up. I should explain the throttle shaft is the part that the throttle plate is mounted and the throttle cable attaches Joe

IDK.... If it's the fuel line leaking and it can be definitively fixed and verified great. If not I'd be swapping out the carb with either a professionally rebuilt one or new. Then again I was on a boat that started on fire. Amazing how that changes your perspective about fuel leaks on a boat. Take my word, it's not like a car where you can get out and walk away from it.
