Faria gateway maxed hours... 07 236

I know this has been discussed many times but can’t seem to find any good information. The little screen on my tach is maxed on hours at 999.9. My question is, can I find a tachometer used from someone else and it will read their hours and start counting? I have read this is true but than I have also read the gateway box tells the tach the hours. Any help would be great thank you.

You're screwed. I'm in the same boat (pun intended). Faria has one explanation - that they were spec'd that way from Nautique, and Nautique customer service says that it is a Faria problem. Either way, I hope this is not indicative of the way they are planning to handle things when all these link screens begin to wear out overtime.
To answer your question; No, another lower hour gauge will not work, the gauge just recognizes the ECM hours from your boat and displays them. Ron Nace is the Nautique customer service rep and he says you can buy a new gateway at the dealer - and that isn't true.
Nautique did however, provide a customer with the very same problem, an updated part number gateway box and it fixed the issue. This was a few years ago, and they provided it to him at no cost, and they deny they ever did that. It sucks, I really like Nautique quality but they fumbled on this issue.
The 'fix' is to 'purchase' a complete retro fit kit, with gauges that don't come anywhere close to matching, and they could not even tell me where the hour meter will start ( 0 or the current hours). I even asked Faria if I payed them, could they fix mine. Their reply is that "we no longer work on these gauges and there is no fix for broken ones.". Email rnace@nautique.com Maybe if enough folks do this, they will come up with a better solution. Good luck.

I saw somewhere someone replaced with a new gauge years ago and it started at 0. Have you tried a different gauge?
