Boat starts without entering code/locking latch for glove box

Sorry for the newbie question! 2010 Sante 210, just purchased and owner said code was **** and to push start 3 times to fire. Had the boat on the trailer and doing some work on it yesterday and didn’t enter code but, pushed start 2 times to power dash up to check fuel level and within a few minutes was going to shut everything down by pushing stop and by mistake pushed start and the boat fired right up. What’s the deal? Thought it would not start without the code. Now I have concerns about someone being able to start the boat. Now I have 2 problems can’t lock the glove box cause the latch has not lock ( if anyone knows what latch will fit that locks please pass the info on) and the boat starts with no code being entered.

My bet is the po did not program a code into the key pad or did not program it properly. The boat is designed to start without entering a code if the original owner did not go through the proper steps to set a personal “secrete” code. If you don’t already have it you will need to contact a Nautique dealer or the factory to get the master code for your boat. Each new boat had it’s own master code. Write it down and keep it in a safe place for future reference. Once you have the master code look at your owners manual or go to the reference section on this site for 2010. Section 4 pages 16-21 has all the info you need to delete any old codes and enter a new code of your personal preference. Good luck.

I went through this process yesterday. I bought my boat in the fall, but had not put a code in yet. I followed directions in the owners manual and did not need a master code.

Tandcc, I believe you are correct. You only need they master code to delete old codes not to enter new ones.

I need to program mine as well. Question however, do you only need it on initial startup? If you turned engine off on water for changing riders etc. do you need code again?

You do only need to enter the code on initial start up. The only time the system will automatically relock itself is if you go 10 hours with no keypad entries.

If you turn off the battery and turn it back will you need to re-enter the code? I followed the directions with start start stop 1 7 entered the code hit start enter the code again stop. turned off the battery and the boat starts without a code... Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a friend with a 2007 236 he has owned since new. He has never gone though the procedure to program a “personal” code and never has to use a code to start his boat. As long as the battery toggle switch is in the “on” position the boat will start by pushing the “start” button. If the battery toggle switch is put in the “off” position for any period of time and the put back in the “on” position, the boat will once again start by pushing the “start” button.
