We decided to add a 196 to the family as the slalom wake on my 210 isn't ideal, my 6/8 year olds are getting into skiing, and I hate waiting for my buddy to come to the lake for the weekend to ride in his 196.
I pulled the trigger on a pretty clean 02 196 last night and now need to start the process of "fixing" it up. I've read a lot about telefflex gauges but thought I would throw everything into one list and see if there is any different feedback.
- Tach/speedo don't work (this boat does have perfect pass digital pro). Is getting the analog gauges the best/easiest fix?
- Temp gauge was replaced but was only running between 100-120 when I test drove (water 55 degrees). Is this normal running temp? Can this be calibrated?
- Air temp gauge works but water temp does not.
- Depth reading does not work but it allows you to set depth alarm
- Rust on manifold. Looks like there may have been a leaky gasket at some point.
- Rear locker!!! The "button" to open the locker doesn't work and you have to pull the release from under the side. Also, the hatch doesn't want to "catch" and keeps popping back up unless you pull the hatch towards the bow as you push it down.
- Throttle is a little loose.
- The silver trim around ignition keypad has turned gold and has dark brown blotches. It looks like someone tried to clean it with a chemical and it had a strange reaction.
- The black plastic engine cover (says ppm 5.8 HO) is scratched all over. It looks like it was scrubbed with a steel wool pad. The guy who I bought it from is the 2nd owner and said it was done by the original owner. Any idea why?
