    Depth using Maps

I love having the map of lakes and what the depths are when i am cruiaing or exploring uncharted waters. I think the depths are all pre-loaded. What benchmark is preloaded? For example. the lake I mainly use at full pool is 1071. If the lake is 5’ low or at 1066 should i subtract 5’ from what the map shows on the screen?

I believe that subtracting the 5 feet would be accurate in that case. I boated on Lake Lanier for 20 years and can tell you that there are plenty of trees that were “topped” when the lake was dammed up. I have encountered several of them when skiing at 4 mile creek when the water level was down 10-15 feet or so. It’s scary when you’re skiing and see one of those trees a foot or 2 under your path. Right now it shouldn’t present a problem though. Be careful in the tributaries as that’s where the unexpected obstacle will most likely be present.

I had the same experience in Hartwell with trees. I still remember one day wakeboarding and the boat stopped. I was wondering why as I sank in the water and ended up on a tree branch. We used oars to get us out and luckily nothing was damaged. The driver saw the branches and just killed the engine. Probably saved me a few hundred for a new prop.
