    Check your throttle

Last year I put PP on our boat. I wasnt happy with the throttle engagement and just passed it off as a consequence of the PP. I decided to disassemble the linkage today and see if it needed servicing after 1450 hours. All I have to say is that I'm lucky! So when you guys have a few minutes check your linkage.

Did you find that it was hanging up? Tight? I've greased the heck out of mine (without removing/disassembling it), so I don't expect any part to fail due to friction. My boat is a '97 SN that I picked up last year. I had a '96 from new. On this boat (project boat), I replaced both throttle and shift cables, but everything seems a little sticky. I'm wondering if I should pull the control mechanism out and disassemble it. Or should I just spend $300 or so and get a new one? Don't mind getting a new one if it makes everything better. My '96 was never this tight, and I never had to replace the shift/throttle cables once (1650hrs when I sold it). The '97 is just over 1,000hrs.

wtrskrs it wasn't hanging up or tight. The throttle was engaging a slight amount before the transmission would if you didn't move it extra slow. I learned that where the connectors for the control cables mount, they were highly worn and the throttle connection was almost completely worn through. Could have been dangerous loosing throttle control in a tight turn pulling a skier. I do plan to take the control completely apart and rebuilding it this week. I did the tilt mechanism last year and that worked out really well.

The post was just a friendly reminder to just have a look at those connectors. It's less than $10 worth of parts to replace and NP has them.

Scary. I'm guessing that does not have a safety return spring in case that breaks?

There is a spring at the throttle body I'm just not sure how effective it is. I just glad I didnt have to find out what would happen.
