    1986 SN transmission slip

    Hello all,

First post here after buying a 86 SN a few days ago. The transmission slip was disclosed so not like I was screwed. If I accelerate slowly, there is no problem all the way up to full throttle. No problem engaging reverse. If I accelerate quickly, engine revs and transmission slips. Fluid is full and looks red clear. I have not pumped fluid out to look more closely. Nautique dealer rough quoted $1200-1500 for rebuild, without seeing boat. I read through three pages of search results here but did not see anything specific to this issue. Any tips or insights appreciated. Thanks.

correctcraftfan is going to be a better resource for rebuilding your Velvet Drive. That transmission is dirt simple. 1:1 with a reverse and neutral. But it’s still a transmission so it’s not the easiest thing in the world to rebuild. And if it’s slipping, it will need a rebuild.
