I bought my SN two years ago and I'm gradually getting things right. I replaced the stringers, floor, gauges, and wiring this winter. One on-going issue is the cable adjustments. I've gone through the throttle and shifter adjustment threads and I still can't get it right. If I set the transmission cable on the forward detent and connect the carb linkage then it starts to rev up going into reverse and visa versa. It's like it needs more spread between the shifter engaging and the throttle cable moving. It's close but not exactly right. There are three holes on my transmission shift linkage and I am using one of the top two (farther from the pivot bolt). If I move the cable to the hole closer to the pivot bolt I can make it shift properly but it feels like it's binding (much harder to move the throttle lever) because the cable is at a funny angle from the cable mount to the transmission linkage. I thought I was mechanically inclined but this thing is kicking my butt. Any words of wisdom? I thought about modifying the transmission cable mount to correct the angle but I shouldn't have to do that. The boat has operated for 33 years with the bracket as-is.
