    Aftermarket Keyless code ignition system

I'd like to put a push button ignition system on my 96 Sport during the restoration. I know its easy to find basic push button ignition switches on Amazon with no security, but with the little ones, I'd like to get a keypad system. I haven't had much luck finding a code based system (that isn't $400). Anyone have any recommendations?

Put the ignition toggle up under the dash where they won't see it or reach it accidentally.... I just did the opposite of what you're doing with my SAN. I have a keypad but put an ignition toggle and pushbutton start switch up under the dash, in case of a keypad failure.

I've been reading about this today. I think I like the idea, have the circuit cutoff toggle hidden up under the dash. Turn it on for the day (or off when little ones are around) and then just put a simple spring loaded push button on the dash for starting/stopping.

The push button only engages the starter in my case. You'd have to hit the toggle off to turn the engine off. If you're trying to prevent a kid from accidentally starting the engine, a push button is so tempting to a kid compared to a hard-to-turn key switch, at least in my experience going from a key (old boat) to a keypad (new boat). You could have two pushbuttons that have to be pressed at the same time, that would be easy to wire and keep the starter from being accidentally engaged with a running engine. There are plenty of creative solutions...

Prior to me purchasing it, the keypad on my 2000 Sport failed. The previous owner installed a toggle switch/push button ignition much like functionoverfashion describes. The accessory panel on the right had also failed, so they had it fitted with these terribly ugly plastic multi-colored switches. Debating whether it bugs me enough to spend $400 on a new accessory panel that might fail again, or maybe someday I'll run into somebody that can custom make a panel of switches that looks nicer.

I was thinking a push button specifically for ignition which would also serve to shut engine off. I definitely don't like the idea of reaching up under the dash to kill the engine. Having a master enable switch under the dash would be fine.

            Something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/Engine-Start-S...6&sr=8-12&th=1

You could also just install a hidden universal kill switch and remove the lanyard much like what comes on OEM boats. If you leave boat unattended just pull out the clip mechanism and starting is defeated.

Not sure what happened to my post.

id get a push to start with a key fob. Your security is set.

I'm sure they make waterproof ones. Just tie a bouy to it.

                Maybe something like this

That's an interesting idea. So would you wire up the purple ignition wire to the "brown - key on 2" wire?

For $26 it seems worth trying.

I'm not sure. Some research would need to be done.

There was a guy on fb nautique owners group working on a similar project. Maybe find his posts and reach out.
