Note: even though my issues is resolved, I wanted to add my info to the forum in case it can help someone in the future. I am so grateful to all the others who posted on similar issues. I think I read every related post while trying to figure it out. I couldn’t have solved this problem without you!
Have owned the boat for 2018 & 2019 seasons. Had always started on the first crank, ran great & never stalled.
At the very end of 2019 had two times of where it took 3-5 attempts to get it to fire up. Then ran normally.
Start of 2020 - replaced plugs, and both in-line and FCC fuel filters. First time out died mid-cruise after 45 minutes as if someone pulled the kill switch lanyard. Started back up on third attempt and ran normally rest of weekend.
Next weekend started okay, but died again mid-cruise. This time couldn’t restart. The engine just turned over with no fire. Towed in.
Checked all relays and fuses. Confirmed kill switch was functioning properly. Confirmed FCC primed properly when the ignition cycled. Pressure at schrader valve on fuel rail was 59 PSI. Fuel gauge at half full. Started twice at the dock and ran at idled (660 rpm) for 60-90 seconds and died. Couldn’t get it to start again.
Replaced Ignition Coil, Plug Wires and Distributor Cap & Rotor. Pulled and cleaned Throttle Body. No start; just turned over with no fire.
Figured at this point it had to be either CKP (ref. R020038), Throttle Position (TP) Sensor (RA119005) or the Electronic Control Module (ECM) (R116024). Since I have the older, no-longer-available TP, and installing the new RA119005A version requires the ECM to be reprogrammed by the factory, I went for the CKP and crossed my fingers. I didn’t even want to think about the ECM being bad.
Installed a new CKP and it started like normal on the first attempt. It idled a little high (730 rpm), but I attributed that to the ECM re-learning the cleaned Throttle Body.
Lake tested it yesterday and ran great. Idle back at 660 rpm after 30 minutes. Thrilled to get this resolved 8 days before the Memorial Day weekend! Once again thanks to all who share their experience and knowledge on this forum!
