    Packing for Stuffing Box?

Just ordered packing from Nautique Parts for my 1997 Ski Nautique... I have never done this, so I'm looking for some guidance from you all Pros!!
I have removed the packing nut and wire, also cleaned all the old packing. What Im looking for is the process on how to install the new packing into the stuffing box?

    Thank you in advance!!!!!!

I've only this this a couple of times. But, when I removed the old packing, I counted the number of layers that you pulled out and then I laid them out to measure the length. Cut the new rope and reinstall them into the coupler. Screw the nut onto the coupler and adjust while on the water for 1 drip every 10 sec. Tighten the nut and then bail wire the two.

Don’t forget to cut the ends on a 45 so you have an overlapping joint.
Stagger your joints when reinstalling 12’oclock, 3’o’clock, 6’oclock and so on. I have seen where some have cut a section out of a piece of PVC pipe so it just slips over the shaft and use that a ram to help push the rings into the nut.

Like junky said you can count the rings that you remove and put the same back in and if you feel that it isn’t enough you can put in another ring or two. Just make sure that you get the nut threaded on with a sufficient amount of turns and its not so tight that it doesn’t get the required of drips or gets hot.
