Any tips on mounting a BI boom block but not scratch/muck/mar up the pylon?

I just picked up a (used) BI boom for the 206. Had a boom on my last boat mostly for teaching and but occasionally getting stupid. Didn't fit on the new boat so I had to sell and the BI is the replacement.

Here's the block that mounts to the pylon....

My 206 has a really pretty black pylon...Is there some way to clamp the block but not muck up the pylon?

    Thanks in advance!

You can wrap the pylon with a bit of 3M clear mask material.

Ah...that's a good suggestion. Maybe even put the 3m making in the block itself? I need to be able to re-position the block to change the boom height.

Were I in your position, I'd cover the whole cylindrical section of the pylon. That stuff protects what it's applied to. In this instance, I'd want to protect the pylon more than a chunk of aluminum.

I put very thin adhesive-backed foam rubber on my boom mount. Don't recall where I got it; probably at a HW store (many ears ago)

OK. Any chance you can link me to the specific 3m product you like/suggest?

Also = thanks wtrskrs for the suggestion!

              Foam is a good suggestion.

With respect to the vinyl, we're talking about scrap sizing that is going to end up in the dumpster at the end of the day behind your local clear mask installer. They're doing whole vehicles, from cars to boats, using giant sheets cut on a plotter. I'd stop by one and tell them what you're doing and offer a couple bucks for enough scrap to play with and ultimately apply.

If they tell you to pound sand, pick up some foam.

OK. Turns out (news to me but makes sense) you can order small bits of car vinyl wrap from Amazon and others. So I got a small piece for $10 and covered the inside curve portion of the block. I think this will work nicely.

Not that you can see much here as the block and the vinyl are both black...but here's a pic post install.

Just as a follow-up, this solution is working.
