While driving the boat onto the trailer the prop hit the trailer and when pulled out of the water you could see the strut had come loose from the bottom of the boat. The boat is a 2006 and the fiberglass looked fine. The bolts were all loose and hanging and one was broken. We left the boat with a mechanic, so I don't have a picture but is it normal to have the strut tear away from the boat like that? You can't see any damage to the prop. It's like the screws backed themselves out.
I was going slow but it was a rookie mistake to let the kids stay on the boat. They are 3 and 5 and I thought they would stay in their seats. Next thing I knew both of them were reaching over the side and I jumped up to pull them back in the boat before they lost an arm. This caused me to come in a little sideways. I would rather fix the boat than take a kid to the hospital. New boat rule, no kids on the boat during launch or loading.
