Bilge pump question 2015 230

I’m hoping to lean on some shared experiences and help me figure out whether or not I have a problem.

I’ve had the boat for about a year. The front bilge pump cycles regularly as needed and ejects water out of the mid-starboard drain. I realized at some point last summer that there was another water ejection drain on the aft port area of the boat, right next to the port ballast tank overflow, that has never run that I can recall, and realized this is the outflow (I think) for the stern ballast pump. I would always have a considerable amount of water left in the bilge after a day on the water that I would drain by pulling the plug after getting on the lift, and I figured I must have a bad pump. So I replaced it, but still nothing pumps out. When I power up the boat, I feel like I hear that pump cycling though.

Since we’ve not yet gotten into the heart of the summer when we bring the most water on the boat, maybe it just hasn’t filled yet enough to come on, but even since I’ve replaced the pump, I’ve seen enough water in the bilge to at least be covering the bottom inch to two of the pump. I know I may need to troubleshoot with a voltmeter. Any other thoughts? Possible plugged outflow tube? Or does this pump just rarely cycle? I’d appreciate any insight from other 230 owners or those with knowledge of these boats in general. Thanks!

Each bilge pump should cycle every 2.5 minutes.

Thanks Jeff! So I think I hear mine cycling on...that’s the whir you hear right when you boot up the Linc, right? I definitely hear two separate sources of this sound. So if mine never pumps anything out, is it because there’s a clogged outlet line, or does the rear bilge just rarely need pumping in 230s?

One way to find out. Put the plug in and get a hose and put a good bit of water in the hull, then power everything up and see what happens.

Thanks, I’d considered that and I’ll give that a shot. If still nothing, I’ll try to see if the outlet tube will flow manually. Thanks again.

FWIW - I have a 2014 230 and my port side bilge pump regularly ejects water. However, I have not noticed anything coming out the starboard side...?

Interesting...I’m the exact opposite. I wonder if they’re plumbed the same 2014 and 2015. I’ll do some more investigating this weekend.

If it is loud it is the fuel pump(s) pressurizing. If you put your hand on the bilge pump(s) you will feel it cycle every 2.5 minutes like jeff said. Or i think if you unplug the connector and plug back in it cycles immediately.

I think both pumps are on the same circuit. Actually if you turn on the bilge at the keypad both should be on constant and you should be able to feel them moving. I am pretty sure.

Like you said you could take a voltmeter or a test light and make sure each pump get's power.

I have a similar issue with a 2016 SAN 230, when the year bilge pump engages it begins pumping up and out the drainage scuppers on the port side. how is this possible?
