Rear hatch on ‘02 196 not working properly

I put this in another post that had a bunch of problems and now I’m down to this one left to fix. I was able to get the rear hatch buttons both reconnected but the actual latch doesn’t appear to be working properly. The latch with the green arrow pointing to it doesn’t close fully unless the latch with the red arrow slides forward. It only seems to slide forward if I push it. I cleaned everything and applied lubrication. Any other suggestions?

Anyone have a solution? The **** hatch keeps popping open.
